Here another great new out of the box 1950s Stetson Open Road cowboy Fedora. If you look closely at the shaping of this hat you can see both the Open Road and the Statoliner combined shaping. This came about from a custom shaping from the original Open Crown at the store. This particular shape inspiration came from an old movie The Sea of Grass.

Yes its an old movie and most of you wont know who these great actors were. Dad said he had the old movie poster card and had the hat shaped just like Spencer Tracys cattle-baron wardrobe. So you most likely wont see another one out there shaped like this anywhere. The crown has the Fedora shape and the body has the Open Road Cowboy shape.

If you really wanted to make this a pure Open Road Cowboy hat or a pure Stratoliner Fedora any hat place could shape it. These le beaver hats are the easiest to work with. This hat is made of the OLD 10X Beaver so its NOTHING alike today or the 60s 10X beaver! We took out dads complete collection of Stetson, 3X, 7X clear beaver, Ten, Fifteen, Twenty and TwentyFive to compare it to. Its just to thick and soft!

Its extremely soft and thick and so very easy to shape and work with! Dad and I hate this new explosion in ratings! This is from the early 1950s. We just cant say enough about this hat! We actually measure each hat 3 times to verify the size, tagged or not tagged. This chart is still in use today.

This is tagged size 7 but in todays (1970) chart says its larger, at 22-1/4 (2/8) inches. A exact size 7 is 22 inches and an exact size 7-1/8 is 22-3/8 inches. So this is slight over a 7. Also since its close to a 7-1/8 it could easily be stretched but these vintage hats can only be stretched one size larger.
