Vintage EXCELLENT High Brehm Stetson 60s (Will Custom Shape) Beaver 7-1/8++7-1/4

  
This EXCELLENT Vintage High Brehm (Stetson) Light Brown, 7X Beaver, (currently on the Open Crown shape, will custom shape). This is the vintage 7X Beaver! Nothing like today's 7X Beaver! The size is 7-1/8++ at 22-1/2 inches (57.5).

This is an excellent hat! So rare to find this in such great condition too!

So thanks to one of our collectors to help us date and identify this great hat! This is from the 1960. It was most likely a contracted out hat to Stetson and maybe finished off by High Brehm liner and leather sweatband. It just more efficient and cost effective.

NOTE a a second well respected collector has written us to say this was made by Resistol and designed by the Byer-Rolnick, the famous duo hat designers. So we have added his response to our inquest. No matter who actually manufactured this it is a GREAT HAT!

Resistol, along with many other hat manufacturers would contract out hats to anyone who'd pay for their services. The 1960s 10X Beaver was a great comparison but we just didn't believe it was quite that good, so we are comparing it to the Stetson 7X Beaver and that was slightly better than that. This 7X Beaver (or better, it's NOT the 1950s Stetsons for certain) line NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE 7X CLEAR BEAVER!

It's a much much higher quality than the 3X Beaver and is just much easier to work with, to shape and style. HIGH BREHM hats is a very old company, over 100 years old! You can read about them on the internet. Take a look at it, they have a great history! They are located in Victoria, Texas. The name model on this great hat is "Victorian", not sure if that's related to the location the business is in? Does anyone out there have any ideas on this name?

As we did look through their website we no longer see their own custom hats? But they appear to still work hats. This is an outstanding wide (2.9 inches) brim. You can see the leather sweatband is NOT a sewn joint! This allows for easier stretching without breaking the sewn joint or reed.

This has NOT been stretched yet. It was worn a few times though and put away. This does NOT have a sewn joint in the back of the leather sweatband so it's just that much easier to stretch. This takes time and patience though.

This Beaver is Very very soft and semi-pliable, hold a shape just like you'd expect from these true vintage beaver hats. This could easily be shaped into a cattleman, campaign, Gus- Tom Mix or nearly any shape you'd like to shape it! If you want it changed you will need to write to dad.

NO ROLLED BRIM, dad is no longer doing that anymore. All the pictures with the shaping art all hand-bashed, it takes seconds to hand-bash this great hat! This can be "hand-bashing" to different shapes also, it's soft and pliable enough to get a shape to remain in place though! Note: this is not the original hat box bit it's still in very good condition!

The bottom we discovered is falling out! Dad replaced it that with a great vintage oval hat box. The hat box is still in great condition with the original hat holding insert set too, See picture number 1.

It's the black box. We haven't been able to identify the logo on it? Please write to us if you do? It has 2 what look like Unicorns on each side of a shield. This hat really fits into it fine. The box is still in good condition, it has the original hat holding insert set and there is a bit of paper loss but it's still a strong and durable box. The top has a corner that is broken. If you have any questions please write us. Measures to size 7-1/8++ at 22-1/2 inches.

So a perfect size 7-1/8 is 22-3/8 inches and a perfect 7-1/4 is 22-3/4 inches. This is right in between.

If you wear a size 7-1/8, using thick felt strips or (we use) leather strips under the leather sweatband will reduce the size to fit and if your a size 7-1/4, any hat stretcher will work to stretch this to a perfect 7-1/4, just takes time and patience. We do have some extra leather strip, just write to us and ask if you need them? The Tilley hat size chart. This chart is still in use today. This could be stretched to one size larger by a good hatter.

The hat color is light brown. So the picture of the whole underside is the best match to the actual color.

Size 7-1/8++ or 22-1/2 inches or 57.7. Height 5.6 inches, at the highest point in the Open Crown style.

Wide Brim width 2.9 inches. Matching Grosgrain Ribbon 3/8 of an inch. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL HAT!
