This model is called "DEPUTY" and this is the original shape of this hat! No changes were made when cleaning and doing a touch-up and the shaping. This is the style hat that you'd see worn in all those 1960s Cowboy TV series and Movies. Just a great looking hat! If this was worn it was very sparingly.
The picture of the whole underside is the best representation of the actual color. Dad and I are NOT agreeing on the color though even though it says SilverBelly on the label to me it looks more Taupe. If you have any questions please write to us. It is easy to identify this as a 1960s Resistol by the red liner and the stamping onto the leather sweatband.
That Yellowish tag was found under the leather sweatband and we decided to glue it back into place. This was actually manufactured by Resistol! This is NOT a a HATCO product, very big difference. These older Beaver hats are so easy to with! This is very soft and pliable and so very easily steamed and shaped.
This is NOT an anything like the newer, EXTREMELY stiff Resistol or Stetson or other manufacturers hat! Steam shaping this is easy to do if you'd ever wanted to change it? So this states X DOUBLE X but if you are not familiar with these older vintage Resistol Double X these are extremely soft and pliable! NOT SEMI-PLIABLE BUT PLIABLE alike you'd find in their 1950 and pre-1950s hats! Dad and I both believe that this has a good mix of Beaver and Rabbit because it's so soft and pliable.
We know once you feel this you'll know what we are talking about! NOTE: the hat box is NOT included in this sale. Dad just wanted it in the picture. We are looking for a period correct Resistol hat box for this hat but the ones we have found are too small. We will continue to look though.
NOTE: after talking more with dad we decided to try and match this hat up with others that we believe are similar. It says it's a "Double X" but it is extremely soft and very pliable. It felt like a Beaver 15 Stetson from the 1950s! The only way we could figure out why it's so soft and pliable is that this has not only Beaver but contains lots of Rabbit also.
As we usually determine the beaver when not stated on the hat is while working the hat it's so much easier to determine by how it handles and shaped while it's being shaped. If you have any questions please write us. The was a hat tag states 7-1/8 but this measures to size 7-1/8+++ at 22-1/2+ inches (it's a fraction under a perfect 7-1/4, see last picture).A perfect 7-1/8 is 22-3/8 inches and a perfect 7-1/4 is 22-3/4 inches. We actually measure each hat 3 times to verify the size, whether tagged or not. We use the Tilley hat size chart for measurements, still in use today. Size 7-1/8+++ or 22-1/2+ inches or 57.8. Width 10 inches, measured at widest part of rolled brim.
Height 5 inches at the tallest point. Wide Brim width 3.45 inches. Grosgrain Ribbon is 3/8 of an inch. If you have any question please write.
