Vintage Excellent 50-60s CUSTOM Beaver FIFTY (50) Tom Mix Gus size 7-1/4

  

Here's an EXCELLENT a 1960s Beaver FIFTY (50) Black Tom Mix- Gus BIG Cowboy Hat, size 7-1/4. Please look at the pictures! It's in really Excellent condition.

Found in that Stetson original box with that feather additional wrap-around band. These are all a bit worn over time but still very functional. This was shaped to look like those 1930-40s John Wayne short serial movies that dad and I love watching on Turner Classic Movies and Starz Western channel. Stetson still make this hat even today!

A style that will last forever! Ok so you probably know the current Bailey hats as a not such a great hat! Most all are made of wool these days. Since they were bought out. Its started out in 1922 and was very competitive with all the big name companies like Stetson, Dobbs, Knox and many other great hat makers. Bought out by BOLLMAN in 1986 this was the end of the companies high end hat making! BOLLMAN was known for their wool hats and for city type women's and men's hats, low end. Bailey was assigned to making cheaper western hat and their straw hats but they would NEVER be that high end hat maker again. This is one of there very best hats! Their PURE BEAVER 100 was their highest grade and most expensive, this Beaver Fifty 50 was the 2nd to their highest and best hat made.

This was made to compete with the other big companies like Stetson and Resistol Beaver 100 hats but a lower affordable hat. And it's looks and feels very soft and thick. The color is a dark black, throughout the hat!

We aren't certain why some pictures are coming out lighter but it's that dark black. NOTE: Though it was found in that Stetson box it will NOT be included in this sale. Perfectly shaped into that TOM MIX shape it's a real looker of a hat that everyone will notice. It really stands out in a crowd!

It's a BIG hat! It's 6 inches tall. The shape has been steamed into it so it will remain in this shape until someone steams shapes it into another style.

There is a feather hatband too that you can place onto the crown if you want a different look like a 1960s look, see pictures. The feather band is still in ok condition too. It's a real beauty, it's the original classic cowboy shape. These old Beaver Fifty (50) hats can be shaped and reshaped into many styles! And it doesn't take a pro to do it either! Just lots of steam and hand manipulation will shape the hat. This is NOT a possible with the newer "HARD SHELL" hats. Dads tried on one for my grandson and it's impossible.

You can really not even see the original shape in the back of the hat anymore, see pictures. Dad thinks this started out as a tall cattleman style?

We all know that HATCO has been making Stetson, Resistol and many other companies hats for years now but this is an original Resistol. These older hats are made so much better than any of the new HATCO hats, there's a world of difference.

We actually measure each hat 3 times to verify the size, whether tagged or not. This was tagged 7-1/4 and measures exactly to a 7-1/4 which is 22-3/4 inches. Size 7-1/4 or 58 or 22-3/4 inches. Width 13 inches, widest part of the hat, as is not flattened out. Height 6 inches in the back and 3-1/2 inches in the front.
