You can see the leather sweatband has very little wear on it at all! It's completely and securely attached all the way around and still very soft and pliable! You can see the video we added that shows how "Buttery" soft it actually is!
The Beaver 20 was one of Resistol's highest quality hats that they manufactured! We just can't describe in words exactly how soft and pliable this hat is! " Hand Bashing" this into any style just takes seconds to do! The color is certainly very rare one to find anymore and we are having a hard time naming it! The picture of the whole underside is the best representation of the actual color.
Dad is calling this a Rusty Brown? It is easy to identify this as an early 1960s Resistol by the red liner and the BR20 stamped onto the leather sweatband.
I think that Stetson now has a Beaver 1000? It's just out of control!
This was actually manufactured by Resistol! This is NOT a a HATCO product, very big difference. These older Beaver 15 hats are so easy to with!
This is very soft and pliable and so very easily steamed and shaped. This is NOT an anything like the newer, EXTREMELY stiff Resistol or Stetson or other manufacturers hat!Steam shaping this is easy to do if you'd ever wanted to change it? It's just beautiful the way it sits now. Once dad and grandson steamed this into an Open Crown. We all agreed that because of the brim shape this would look great as a Gus or Tom Mix cowboy hat.
So that shape can be steamed into the hat. If you'd like it steamed into the hat please write and ask us to steam it that way. Also if you'd like the sides steamed with the dents on it, dad and grandson will do that also. If you look at some of dad's other listing, Tom Mix - Gus hats you can see what that would look like. Or if you'd like a Tall Cattleman's or Rancher (Diamond Crown) we can do that shaping also.
We NO longer do Pencil Rolls! It's just extremely difficult to do now with arthritic hands. Apologies, but any decent Hat Store will do that for you. That wide (3.6 inch) brim can be steamed to a shovel style brim, just write to ask dad to reshape it. NOTE: the hat box is No longer avaiable in this sale.
Dad has decided to keep it and store one of his older Resistol hats inside and place it on his display shelf. If you have any questions please write us. The was a hat tag states 7-1/4 we found it folded under the leather sweatband (see last picture) and this measures to a perfect 7-1/4 at 22-3/4 inches.
We actually measure each hat 3 times to verify the size, whether tagged or not. Size 7-1/4 or 22-3/4 inches or 58. Width 14.25 inches, widest part.Height 6.75 inches at the tallest point, Open Crown. Wide Brim width 3.6 inches. Matching Grosgrain Ribbon is 3/8 of an inch. If you have any question please write.
Dad seems to know quite a bit about this hat. Take a look at dads other great vintage hat he has listed, we try and list couple each week. If you have any additional information or corrections, please write us. This is just a really great hat! Please see our excellent Ratings but please read our very excellent feedback. Dad has collected hats for a lifetime and there are 100s of them, on shelves, stacked in closets and spare bedrooms. We are slowly listing these special hats weekly.
