Plains is a Resistol model not a Stetson. As the sweatband stitching looks original, I suspect this is a plain Resistol Plains with a Stetson liner that some one stuck in it at some point. I think the only thing that is "Stetson" with this hat is the non-original liner. This sale is for a.......
Size 7 1/4 (see notes at BOTTOM of this listing). Please scroll down through 18 pictures; text between most pics.
I got this hat at an estate sale and it looks (to me) to be in good condition. The "shape" of the crown is a little askew, but my understanding is that these hats conform to one's head with regular wear. The ivory colored liner inside the hat looks like it has separated from the sweat band in several spots. This probably due to age as much as anything else, but it is that way. The material seems to be in good, clean condition.
The crown is higher in the back than it is in the front; 4 at back. And about 3.5 at front. The brim is 3 wide all around. The crown "creases" as shown in the picture above.. Not centrally placed, but with a bend toward the front.
I don't know if that would straighten out with. More use by the new owner. You may know about that. The white lining looks like it has. From the sweat band in several spots.Much as anything else, but it is that way. The inside sweat band shows no wear that I can see. If you look carefully at the picture above you can see some. Separation between the white material and the sweat band.
There is no hat size inside the hat and there was no box with it when I bought it at an estate sale. You can see there is a very slight upward "bend" to the left and right side of the brim. Use the tip above (from Stetson) to see what hat size might work for you. The hat fits me and I found my head measurement was 23 inches; that "might" mean the hat size is a (large) 7 1/4 as shown in the chart above. Use the chart above if you have a measurement of your head to see what size YOU need. Note: I have done my best to try to determine the hat size BUT I can NOT guarantee it will fit your head exactly.
